Mt. Elim Baptist Church

Meet the Pastor Greetings,It was November 10, 1991 and my privilege to answer the call of God to preach my first sermon as a bi-vocational pastor at Mt. Elim Baptist Church. So was the beginning of a growing love for a special congregation and the communities it serves. It was also a new step of faith into the kingdom work God had called me to as a young man in 1967 when I was licensed into the gospel ministry by my home church, Berea, in Pembroke, NC.
I had grown up in Robeson County, earned a B.A. Degree from Furman University in Greenville, SC and a M. Div. Degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. When I began the Mt. Elim pastorate, I was 44 years of age and employed at Robeson Community College in Lumberton, N.C. However, my first Christian vocation had begun at age 20 as a summer worker with the Burnt Swamp Baptist Association and Southern Baptist Home Mission Board. The early work expanded into a position as Director of Missions for that association until my resignation in 1986.
My ministry in missions and now as a pastor has provided an abundance of blessings to my personal life, my family, and to my chosen careers. Mt. Elim quickly became a main artery to and from my heart. I have grown to deeply love and cherish the church families as we labor together.
Along with my wife, Peggy, who shares her talents in music and instruction at Mt. Elim while working as an elementary school counselor in Hoke County and with our five children who are now grown into adulthood, through the years we have found special warmth in fellowship with this congregation. We have experienced God’s blessings upon us and upon the church family. We have developed cherished relationships and shared meaningful experiences that have become embroidered into the fabric of our lives.
I hope this message to you will encourage your step, as well, toward making Mt. Elim Baptist Church your spiritual home. May God bless you.
